Developing national program accreditation standards and guidelines for music therapy

Project Type:
policy and program development and review; stakeholder engagement; communications and reporting

healthy partnerships supported the Australian Music Therapy Association (AMTA) to review and finalise its program accreditation standards and develop accreditation guidelines to comply with National Alliance of Self Regulating Health Professions (NASRHP) requirements. Working closely with educators and AMTA accreditors, accredited universities and project leads, we reviewed existing guidelines, benchmarked them against comparable NASRHP-regulated allied health professions, and incorporated regulatory feedback. Through a structured consultation and revision process, we strengthened compliance, clarified expectations for program providers and accreditation teams, and prepared the final accreditation standards and guidelines for publication, supporting a clear, consistent, and nationally aligned program accreditation framework.
