A NSW government agency invited healthy partnerships to complete an experiential review of the implementation of a new co‑design approach. Our work involved reviewing existing co‑design materials and speaking with program participants (including consumers, partners, project team members and executive staff) to understand their firsthand experiences and the lessons learned through the program.
We held a series of interviews to explore what worked well, where challenges emerged and how the program’s approach to co‑design was being applied in practice. These insights were then summarised through a thematic analysis and presented in a clear, concise report.
This project highlighted the importance of organisational preparation, readiness and capability for consumer partnerships, particularly where co‑design represents a shift in power dynamics and usual ways of working for health and government staff.
